i already know a tattoo hurts...what i'm wondering about is if on the back of the neck, does it hurt EXTRA bad? since it's so close to the bones in your neck...

well i got one today and it didn't hurt nearly as bad as i thought it would..it hurt when he did the outline a little bit..but after that it was cool..the back of the neck is alot less painful then nearly anywhere else on your body..it didn't hurt at all when he crossed over the bone..since there's not a whole lot of skin on the back of your neck,it dosen't hurt anymore than any other tat..good luck

It will obviously hurt a bit but it is not as bad as other spots. I got a neck tattoo on my 18th birthday and the initial shock was horrible but I got used to it and after awhile the poking just felt annoying and it was over quickly (45 minutes). yesterday I got a rose on my stomach/hip (1 1/2 hours) and oh my god I felt like I was going to die! it even burned this morning, but my neck tattoo did not. my mother also agrees that the neck is the least painful spot and I highly recommend getting it there if you have a low-pain tolerance. Thigh tattoos and hip/rib tattoos are going to hurt way worse than anything above that and will not hurt very long. I hope I've helped.

I have a tattoo the size of a half dollar on the upper part of the back of my neck (right below the hairline). Mine didn't hurt a bit. In fact, it felt like someone with fingernails was scratching my neck and I actually started to fall asleep during the process. I'm adding to it next week in fact!

YES! I have ten in all ranging all over and the ones on the back of my neck hurt worst of all, considering that I have a high pain tolerance that says a bit.

No, I have one on the back of my neck and it was not painful at all. My husband has one that circles his entire neck like a necklace and he said the front was the most painful. I guess it also depends on your pain tolerance mine is pretty high.

I got the back of my neck done just over 12 months ago, this was my 5th tattoo, I was shocked as to how sensitive it was... I just closed my eyes and took myself off into another place and it was over before I knew it... My friend has one there, she loved the sensation...
Has the experience put me off....? No way, in the midst of designing my back piece... Can't wait to get started on that!!

My husband has one on the back of his neck and he says that it does hurt fairly bad in certain spots and it took him a few weeks to heal completly due to shirts rubbing and his moving his head alot. He also says he doesn't regret it though.
