I've been in the Army reserve for 6 years now and I hoped to complete my last two years in the IRR but my unit refuse to put me in the IRR. I got upset and refused to drill anymore. My contract, that I signed said I could do my last two years in the IRR. I understand that the world has changed since I signed my contract, but is there a way to complete my last two years without drilling. I heard that if I complete enough correspondence courses online to get 50 retirement points per year, I will have a good year. Can this method be used to satisfy my last two years of requirement?

Yes that's true but no matter what you work out, you have to get approval from your unit.

You can also signup for a short active duty assignment that gets the points.

If you really, really want out... here is what I would do. Set it up to make it appear that you have moved beyond the limited distance. A lot of ppl don't know that is a way out of the Reserves but it is. Say you have drills in Atlanta but move to some town that is a 5 hour drive. Step one is they try to find you a unit near your new location. If there is not one, you get to leave the Reserves and are put in the IRR.

Btw, a friend of mine did this. She rented an apartment in the mountains and had the utlities put in her name... had her drivers license changed... then went into the IRR.

Also, remember though, the IRR can still be called up for active duty.

Unless the rules have changed I don't think they have any other choice but to let you go to the IRR. You are correct in you other questions to as long as you get a good retirement year is 50 or 60, Been out to long. I would talk to someone in your BN I don't think they hold you active for those other 2 years but like I said I retired in 96.

If that doesn't work call Enlisted Branch St Louis

thats bullshit dude. im at my 6 years in the ng in april and they are letting me into irr.

i got deployed with a guy who has been in irr but that was 2 years ago. by now they shouldnt have to be pulling people.

...all i know is that you need to get this squared away now before you get stuck going on another deployment with them. ...no one at all in your chain of comman is going to be able to help you. ...if i were you id go straight up. go to headquarters, to to the sergeant major, the chaplian might have some advice. .....even a civilian lawyer. ...if they are trying to get you to stay they are probably trying to rope you into a deployment. youre doing the right thing by fighting it.

No, you have to go to Iraq and stomp some doors down for Bully Bush and his big oil buddies first.
