ok I asked a question about mormon beliefs whether they were true or not and I got some pretty heated answers. I am not saying it is anymore absurd than any other religion I guess when you are raised to believe one thing anything different sounds strange. the question I was trying to ask was do mormons believe that if they are able to enter the celestial kingdom they can become a god of their own planet? and do mormons believe god was at one time a man on another planet who was exalted to godhood to become the god over earth? those are my main questions I just wasn't sure if that is true or if it is just something that someone posted on the internet..i know things can get twisted and I just wanted to make sure this is the truth so any answers or help would be appreciated!

Silverstogie is sort of correct...

We believe that after a LONG time that those who have been exalted in the highest "level" of the Celestial Kingdom will have the opportunity to progress further and become like God and be able to create their own worlds and spirit children. Why would a person NOT want to progress in all aspects - knowlegde, posterity, power, dominion...all that.
And yes, we do in a way believe that our Heavenly Father was in a similar situation as we are now and through obedience to his gospel and exaltation he became our God and Father. I am sure it to a LONG long time, not just "poof! ok, now you're a god."
It is very deep and not a lot is taught about it because we don't know a lot about it other than what has been revealed to the prophets.
Email me if you have more questions.

"As man is, God once was. As God is, man may become."
-Lorenzo Snow, 5th President of the Church

Mormons believe that God the Father is the 'head God' of this planet and that at the 'council of the gods', he and one of his goddess wives decided to make this earth and put humans on it. They believe God himself is a human/man and is the Spiritual Father of Jesus, Lucifer/Satan, Satan's angels, and everyone that has been or will be born to earth. We were one big happy family until Satan and his angels rebelled and were cast down.

Although all 'faithful' Mormons will supposedly reach the Celestial Kingdom, only those in the 'highest degree of glory' of the Celestial Kingdom get to have heavenly sex and make Spirit babies and Spirit worlds to be gods of by themselves. In order to get there, you have to be married in the Temple and 'sealed' to your wife. (It used to be commonly taught that a man couldn't get there without at least 3 wives, but they've gone away from that teaching, obviously).

The mormons also believe that the Garden of Eden was in Jackson County, Missouri and that that's where Jesus is going to descend when he comes again. One mormon prophet taught that Adam is actually Jesus' father and the God of our world... but the Church actually rejects that doctrine and says that he was misquoted.

Anyway, there are your answers. Good luck!

Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

Mormons don't believe that you get your own planet. We believe that God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are three separate beings. (We don't believe in the Trinity).

Uhmmm, yeah, dude, yeah, that is what they believe. I've talked to a couple of mormons and mentioned that stuff and they kinda looked at me and said "how do you know about those secrets of our faith?" Apparently thats not stuff they you get to know about until you are way up in the mormon clergry ladder so to speak. Though, I'm still wondering where they get their magicial underwear from though. When you meet a mormon face to face, please ask.

I'm not Mormon, but these are really good people. Listen to what they have to say and decide for yourself.
