My baby's apgar score was 0-5-7. He is too young to tell whether or not his brain was damaged from the lack of oxygen and I can't find any articles or anything that woud tell me what is chance he will be dissabled. Did you have a child with low apgar score and how is he/she doing now?

My son [7 wk preemie, emergency c-section, undeveloped lungs] had a 0-1-? [can't recall 3rd #; he was immediately life-flighted to a different hospital and I was under general anesthesia] is doing way beyond fine, socially, emotionally, athletically, and intellectually.
At age 10, he "tests out" as 10th grade or higher in all subjects, is a great U10 soccer player, and was chosen by the 2nd grade student body at his school as the student who most exemplified "Caring".
But enough about us, we need to get you some peace of mind. Your pediatrician should be able to refer you to a program at a major hospital that screens at-risk infants for developmental problems. They check your baby's hearing, vision, motor skills, social skills, etc... on a regular, periodic basis. By keeping a check on these milestones, the proper interventions can be done ASAP. My son was in NICA [Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit] at Shands Hospital, the teaching hospital at the University of Florida, so we were automatically enrolled.
If your pediatrician doesn't give you a referral, call your local health department. Here in Fla we have a "Healthy Start" program for at-risk infants [APGAR, low birth weight, low-income, etc] and they will get you signed up for all kinds of programs.

In the meantime, get the red, white, and black colored toys and bedding to stimulate your baby's learning. And play Mozart for him/her several times a day. [The Mozart Effect is disputed, but I made sure that even in the NICU that a casette of Mozart was played several times a day along with a cassette of my voice, as I was still stuck in the 1st hospital.]

Will try to get back on here with the name of the book the Health Dept Staff gave to me; it was full of fabulous ideas for stimulating your child's senses and learning.

Good luck. And rather than spend your time worrying, talk to that wonderful baby instead. Even at 4 weeks I was telling mine the names of the plants in the yard, how the light switch worked, anything, everything. Read, sing [anything, especially if you like singing it], and play.

I just looked this up so I'm no expert, but..

If your baby scores between 4 and 6, he may need some help breathing. This could mean something as simple as suctioning his nostrils or massaging him, or it could mean giving him oxygen. If your baby scores 3 or less, he may need immediate lifesaving measures, such as resuscitation. Keep in mind, though, that a low score at one minute doesn't mean that your baby won't eventually be just fine. Sometimes babies born prematurely or delivered by cesarean section, for example, have lower-than-normal scores, especially at the one-minute testing.

The five-minute Apgar score
This helps your practitioner see how your baby is progressing and whether he has responded to any initial medical intervention. A score of 7 to 10 is still considered normal at this point. If your baby scores 6 or less at the five-minute mark, he may need medical help and your practitioner will determine what steps need to be taken.

Other articles said that a low 1 minute, and 5 minute score isn't indicative of future problems, and a low score at 10 minutes, could mean some issues, but...a 7 at ten minutes is within normal ranges, so think positive!

My son had a low apgar score. I can't remember what it was, only that it was low. He is almost 6 now. He is very bright and the apgar score at birth has had no bearing on his life thus far.
Best wishes!

sure my sons became round an similar variety, and he does have some developemental delays. that is helpful and omit. What you want to search for as your toddler grows is those favourite little issues they do. Is toddler crying at the same time as he's moist. Is he transferring and sqeeking like toddlers do. Does he pass his head to the sound of you voice? As he receives older is he transferring his hands is he chewing on issues this starts about 3 months, is he searching on the international round him? My son did not do maximum of this stuff. he's not severly damaged notwithstanding, in simple terms mildly. try googling untimely toddlers and their apgar rankings. in simple terms comprehend that low apgar does no longer continually advise mind harm ok each baby is diverse and some toddlers are genuine warring parties and could no longer conflict through any sick impacts.
