If the IRS finds an error on your return, they'll automatically correct it and continue processing the return. They will follow up with a letter that explains it, though with Direct Deposit it's very likely that you'll get the refund before you get the IRS letter about the problem.

Been there and done that. If an error is found
in your tax return, then it will be corrected and
if there is a difference in your refund that's
what you'll get. If you had your return prepared
by a professional, you should bring it to their
attention. Not that it'll get you any more money.

Contact the tax preparer and find out why. That's a lot of money. If they don't have any information they will know where to direct you with the IRS to get that information.
