Is a special paint needed and will it still be safe to use. This is not around the rubber seal and the rest of the microwave still works.

Any paint that you would use for this kind of application would have to be able to take EXTREME temperature changes. Most paints would bubble and fall off, but some could explode. Safest, don't paint. Just wipe off whatever rust you can and save up for a new microwave.

I don't think I'd fool w/ the finish of a m/w oven. They are specially made to hold IN microwaves, and sanding or painting may change that.

They are cheap; you can get one for under $30. Treat yourself to a new, safe one.

I would just buy a new microwave it would pribably be the same cost as buying that special type of paint. right?

just get a new one, they are so cheap now.
