depends on the exam and the exam board. I dont know if they are going to go through with it but there was chatter amooung the unis/exam people to have rsults so the grades were in percentage to the people who got the highest - i.e 5% of the highest grades were awarede a*, the next 10% a grade A the next....etc.

WhenI was in school the tutors would mark on criteria as oppose to assesing how many ticks and crosses you got- criteria such as "did the student show ability to..." and "to what level:none, basic, developed, extensive."

In other classes it was 10% per grade, with A being 90% to 100% correct and b being 80% to 90%... No one ever got an I. Luckely.

If you are asking because you have an exam or test, you should try see how past exam gradings have been assessed by the teacher/board and if really unsure, ask the teacher. answering questions is what they are there for.

It all depends on the national average scores for any particular paper. If you score 80% and very few other people did as well you will get an A. But if many people score 80% then only the top scores will get an A.
