The Office that comes with new computers is only a 60 day trial. Afterwards, you must purchase the license to keep using it.

A good free alternative is OpenOffice.org, but make sure MS Office is uninstalled first, as it tends to not let go of it's association with documents.

Did you pay for a Microsoft Office licence?
(this would be in addition to the list price of the computer, unless it was bundled in as a promotion)

If not, then you need to buy the licence - basically, buy a copy of Office over the counter, and the "product key" whch comes with it will activate it.

You probably have the trial version. If it is a trial version then you have to buy it.

If it is not a trial version, you have to contact MS to get the key created.
