i'm assuming you mean for the groom to see the gown or the bride.
i never thought it bad luck, but i always love seeing the groom's face if the first time he sees his bride in her gown is when she walks down the aisle to his side.
have you ever watched him? his eyes widen slightly, a smile tugs at the corner of his mouth, and his entire face softens at the sight of this beautiful woman coming towards him. his eyes mist up a little, he takes a step towards her as if he can't believe she is real and she is his. when she gets to his side he takes her hand in his and the love and joy in his face as he greets her is beyond words.
that, to me, is the biggest reason the groom shouldn't see his bride in her gown until she steps into the church with her father/brother/whoever.
of course thats just my opinion!

If you're superstitious. however, in terms of convenience and practicality, it's hard to avoid seeing the bride or dress beforehand. You want to make sure your husband likes the wedding dress, don't you? Also, you'll most likely arrive at the wedding together, and do photos beforehand. Besides, seeing your future spouse is relaxing, and will help ease wedding day jitters!

Philippine culture - for filipinos, they said that its bad luck if you try your dress on @ home (after all the alterations). but i think its not bad luck if you're having some alterations and have to try it on (at the shop). they also said that its bad luck if the groom sees the bride on the day of the wedding (before the ceremony starts). about the wedding dress, im not sure if we have that kind of superstition.

I don't think so. My husband was with me when I bought my wedding dress. I put it on when I got home to show him again. We have been together for 12 years and married for 6. So far, so good.

I don't worry about it. Due to time issues, we are actually taking some pictures before the wedding starts, so he'll see me in my gown already.
