Standard Definition television, which is what we've all been watching since long before Edward R. Murrow stood on a roof top and did the first live TV newscast, scans the picture across the screen 262.5 times from top to bottom and then does it again another 262.5 times from bottom to top make 525 lines of scanning. This is called interlaced scanning. Progressive Scan is another term for non-interlaced scanning. Progressive scanning paints the picture sequentially from top to bottom just like your computer monitor.

Progressive scan runs at a higher framerate, at 60 frames per second instead of 30. DO NOT TURN IT ON UNLESS YOU HAVE A EDTV OR HDTV!
