I went to bed the other night in a not-so-good mood, and i woke up in the middle of the night pissed at the world. But it was weird because I was half-awake/half-asleep, and tossing and turning and thinking all these horrible angry thoughts. I eventually started crying and woke up. Weird or what? Has anyone had a similar experience? Is there any explanation for this?

I've had these same exact feelings. When you went to sleep you hadn't resolved whatever made you angry and it stayed in your mind. You probably had upsetting dreams that you may not have remembered that stayed with you when you awoke. The frustration you felt came out in the crying. In your sleep you probably had come to terms to whatever had upset you and you may have wanted to settle the issue. For whatever reason (the other person was gone, it was too late to call) you were left up in the air.

I know that if I don't get out of bed and find some outlet (exercise, writing in my journal, even cleaning the house) I'll never get any restful sleep. Trust me, the conflict will just stay with you throughout the next day and may even result in you being snappish with other people who don't deserve it and your sleep will be disturbed again.

Find an ending to whatever upset you that will satisfy you and let you sleep. Maybe you'll want to make it so totally ridiculous and outrageous that it would never happen, but it will give you satisfaction. It really is amazing what power the mind has over our emotions and physical well-being.
