I had braces at 14 years old. I was a cranky ***** EVERYTIME I'd go in every month and get them readjusted and checked. My mouth would be sore, I couldn't eat, all I could think about was the pain. And this would happen every month for 4 years. The most painful days were the first few, after that it starts to relax a little.
If she has hooks on the corner brackets for the rubberbands when it's time, watch out for those. They can run the inside of the lips and cause sores, they did on me and it was ULTRA annoying. Sometimes as the teeth move, the wire will shift and poke out, scraping the inside of the cheek too. Not fun! But you can go and have it clipped to make it more comfortable. I was always going back. lol
Um.. but to answer the actual QUESTION (sorry for going off LOL), yes the orthodontist is right. The pain will lesson after awhile. Just give it some time, meanwhile be VERY patient and understanding if she's cranky or won't eat! lol

OMG.. your daughter is just like me 2 months ago when i first got my braces on. I thought I will suffer the pain forever, but I'm wrong.. On the first 2 to 3 days it will sore very much that she can't even chew the softest food like noodles. I took pain relievers but it doesn't relieve the pain. I eat noodles but I didn't chew them, i just swallow.
Day 5, ask your daughter if it is still painful cause the pain went away after 5 days. :)
Don't worry, the pain is just normal because the teeth is not used to the braces. Braces put actual pressure on it to align the teeth.
Goodluck and dont worry.
im 15 m.. i have braces.

The pain will usually stay for a week and your child might even get cuts in the mouth due to the wire. But after a week the body will get used to it and the cuts will start to heal automatically. The pain doesn't actually go away because the wires are constantly applying pressure to the teeth but the body's nervous system shuts off the pain by itself. Things will be normal but give it sometime.

Oh yes, the pain will lessen probably within a week or two.
I found ice cream very soothing with my braces pain. For some reason the cold settled down the pain. I also liked smoothies. Got a Jamba Juice in your area???

The pain will definitely subside soon. Is she taking anything for it? She can take ibuprofen and that would help. When I first got my braces put on, I found a website called Archwired (www.archwired.com) to be extremely informative. Their message board is filled with people who really know a lot and will help you deal with every aspect of braces. They have lots of expertise, advice and tips to offer.

The pain could be caused from a cavity that was missed by your dentist. It happened to me and I suffered for about 3 yrs. before I told them to just drill the d..mm thing out and fill it.They kept saying thiers nothing wrong and thier was. The stuppid idiots.

Don't worry the pain WILL go away. The mouth is just getting adjusted to the new addition. At max, after a week it should be fine. Just don't let them keep picking at the braces.
