I am from Indiana and my boyfriend is from Trinidad. We met when he was on visa visiting his family. He is here on visa again and we want to marry. Another problem is that he is legally married in Trinidad (separated 15 years). How does he get a divorce while here. His Trini lawyer said it was easier and faster to do it from here. I know this is alot to answer, any help is appreciated

Never heard about that one. If he has been legally separated from his wife for two years and if she agrees to a divorce, then he can get a divorce.

To marry you, he will need to pass a medical exam. Marrying you will not give him the right to work or live in the United States, though. For that he must apply for a green card, and you need to be married for a few years and pass certain other tests for that. In the meantime, you both would have to live outside of the United States unless he wants to come and go every six months for 3 to 5 years and remain on a tourist visa during that time...

PS: Jeffery C - you are a very wise man.

The last time I checked having boyfriend that is married is adultery, but I am old fashioned that way.

9 out of 10 of these US Citizen foreign spouse marriages are solely for the green card.

The US Citizen gets a little over 2 years of "fake" happiness, and then a lifetime of heartache.

If he is telling you he has been separated for 15 years, he is lying. He wants the green card and a way to bring wife #1 into the US. Otherwise he would have divorced her long ago.

Don't believe me, then do this simple test. Tell him that you love him enough to move to Trinidad with him. If he comes up with economically based excuses, then I am right and he is just another liar.
