Our cats (they live in the garage) have a cat box that I clean out every day. It seems like every day there is stuff on the bottom, like someone poured a bucket of water in it. It really doesn't seem right. I am sure that isn't the cat's droppings or anything. What is going on?

I don't want any answers saying I should bring the cats inside, they are happy out there and they aren't in the streets, we live in the country so they have a big place to wander in: OUR YARD!!!

The urine collects in the bottom of the litter box and probably why it is mud like. I would either try a different cat litter or get a second box for them and make sure to put a layer of baking soda in the bottom of box before adding the litter.

Well, since your bog-standard kitty litter is made from absorbent clay, it stands to reason that it will turn to mud when it has absorbed to much liquid.

If you don't like it, you might try another type of litter such as Yesterday's News or Feline Pine. We switched to Feline Pine about a year ago, and it didn't take long for our six cats to adapt. You don't use as much at a time, it absorbs liquids and odors better, we change it every other week, and the amount we use each time we change it doesn't weigh anywhere *near* as much as the old clay litter. Plus, it's bio-degradable.

To many cats for one litter box. It urine. Add another litter box and use baking soda on the bottom then add the litter. This will help.

hah you probbaly have a leaky roof... your cats really should live in your home otherwise it may be better to put them in a shelter i mean this is better then the streats... as long as its heated its fine

good luck with finding out the problem i would suggest moving the box it might be under a leak that or you could get a more absorbent and better clumping litter.
