I have smoked for about 25 years now and have tried to quit several. Its been a very tough thing to do since I found out that I have an addiction to something in the smoke. Whether it be the rat poisoin, nicotene, or a number of the other polutants, I can't really say, but someday soon, I hope to quit. I lost a grandpa (whom I called "PAP") but not from lung cancer. My passed away from cancer of the blood. I miss him dearly because to me he was like my big brother. Always there, and he taught me how to do so many differnt things. Sorry to hear of your loss. God Bless!

P.S.: It was real nice talking to you *smile*.

I quit several years ago. When I started, it was because I thought people would take me more seriously. Not the case, though. Not only is smoking ( cigarettes or marijuana) a leading cause of lung cancer, but, also, bladder cancer. It is one of the leading causes of heart disease, and arterial disease in the legs. It's the number one cause of emphyzema. The only drug that reacts similarly to the brain as nicotine does, is heroine. It's tough to stop, but, if I can, anyone can.

I have actually not smoked anything my whole life all nearly 30 years of it. My father smokes and my brother but I've had no desire to do it. I am so sorry for you loss and I wish you the best of luck in quitting yourself. My brother inlaw went to get hypnotised for it and tried patches. He gave up for a while then started again, but for his kids his decided to quit again. Hopefully this time is for good. I know I have certain habits I do, not as bad a smoking, but Im not sure if I could stop, but my habit isn't killable. Good luck and stay strong and if your thinking of having children yourself then just don't do it for you for a healthier lifestyle and longer live, but do it for them because their the ones that are going to look up to you :)

I'm so sorry for your loss. My Mother die at 66 of emphysema. It was very difficult for me to watch. I never smoked. My husband at one point smoked 3 packs a day. Quit cold turkey. His Mom died of lung cancer.
It is so difficult for some smokers to quit. I wish them well in their efforts to quit. Maybe you could volunteer fat Relay for Life and dedicate it to grandpa
