Wing Chun (or Tsun depending on the dialect) is primarily a self defence system. Muay Thai is primarily a tournament or sport art - an extremely tough and aggressive one, but a sport just the same. Wing Chun will advocate groin strikes and other disabling strikes that would not be allowed in a Muay Thai ring. I would say Wing Chun would come out on top. At the same time a good street fighter would come out on top of any regimented art purely because of their unpredictability.

Are you aware that a Muay Thai kick could break a person arm? That's what will happen if Wing Tsun tried to block Muay Thai kick. Also there's no defense against clinch or elbows that I'm aware of in Wing Tsun.
So that put Wing Tsun at serious disadvantage against Muay Thai.

There's an old saying in martial arts:
"There are no superior martial arts. There are only superior martial artists."
On any given day, a master of Wing Tsun could destroy a master of Muay Thai, and vice versa.
That being said, I would lean towards Wing Tsun in a street brawl, due to the explosive techniques (remember this is Bruce Lee's base art, learned from Yip Man), low, debilitating kicks to the knees, and maiming strikes to the eyes, ears, nose and throat.
In a ring, the Wing Tsun stylist is relegated to a boxer who can use his legs, and very few WT stylists would have the overall conditioning (particularly the ability to take heavy damage to the legs) to withstand much of a ring battle with a Muay Thai stylist.
As far as similarities, they go no further than to say that almost all Eastern martial arts contain front kicks, elbow strikes, punches, etc. There is no crossover in there developmental history to the best of my knowledge.

Down to the fighter on the day but remember that Muay Thai guys train like demons, in Thailand they live in training camps froma very young age (6 or 7) and practice full contact. In todays form Muay Thai is a sport which dilutes it. I noticed somebody saying Muay Thai has no ground work. Boy how wrong are you!!?? Check out "Ling Lom" the grappling side of Muay Thai. It's awsome.

It depends on who the Wing Tsun and Muay Thai fighter is. The fighter's level, skill, and determination will tell who would win.

As with all martial arts it depends on the situation. In a surprise attack I would go with wing chun but if the person has time to prepare I would go with Muay Thai

SanShao just fought Thai's in Thailand, and well the Thai's lost 5 outa 7 I believe it was. San Shao is the top ring sport currently. It was China against Thailands best.
Wing Chun in the street will waste Thai, if you are talking equal people. Thai has no ground counters.
Wing Chun is not only fast, it is well rounded.
Thai is brutal, period. You have to be tuff to be a Thai fighter period. But it is not well rounded.
Thai in the ring hands down it is a leader of ring fighting. Has been forever.....
