Isn't this is as silly as listing anxiolysis as a side effect of a sedative, or loose stool as a side effect of a stool softener?

ah well, I suppose I have it in my mind that there should be a distinction between intended or direct effect on the one hand, and side effect on the other.
A matter of semantics. Indeed, in some users there may be next day drowsiness,
but the elimination half life of Ambien, e.g., is only about four hours, so this should not present a problem. For legal reasons etc., I suppose......

No it isnt silly to list those side effects. What they do mean by drowsiness being the side effect of Ambien et al. is that you may feel drowsiness the next day morning, (when you dont want to be drowsy.)
And when stool softner may soften your stool for longer and some may have diarrhea.
Basically all the pharmaceutical companies have to mention these things or they might get sued by some idiot who decides they should have been warned about it before.

Because all of these meds are sleeping aides. All sleeping aides cause drowsiness and it is hard to wake up. Try meditating or listening to music that you like. Alcohol, for sleeping is not a good way either. If all else fail's, try smoking a joint just before bedtime. It work's for me.

I do believe they mean after you wake up you may experience continued drowsiness.
