I have to do a report on cults. I need examples of cults doing harm to us. I know that not all cults are bad, but I need things like the Jonestown Massacre.

You can't just google "cults"? WAIT!!! I saw a book at Borders the other day that was all about cults!!! I am sure you can find it. ; )

*To those who call Catholicism or Christianity in general a cult---maybe you should actually think about what you are saying before you say it, and maybe learn about the religions that you are putting down and judging. I have been Catholic for 16 years and I know for certain that it isn't a cult. If you are reffering to our sacrifice of the Mass....just to inform you, we aren't taking virgins dressed in white and slaughtering them on an altar or anything like that.

Do some searches for Marshall Appelwhite, who made his group eat poison pudding so that they could all die and go be one with the commet.

See David Koresh and his group that died in a blaze with the BATF.

Then there are the Jehovah's witnesses who don't allow blood transfusions because their evil leaders tell them it's the same as eating blood. Can't do that, so people who need transfusions die.

Charlie Manson's group was a kind of cult, and they went on a killing rampage and all wound up in prison.

Then there is the MOUNTAIN MEADOWS MASSACRE of the Mormons, when they killed all the non-mormons traveling by wagon train.

The list is endless, but I hope this helps...

It does not know much about cults. So It will not answer very well. But It is speaking like the members of a cult It's mother once joined.

I think Heaven's Gate was a cult..... I think they ate arsenic laced pudding to kill themselves. I'm not sure but I think that they saved rolls of quarters, wore black jumpsuits, and thought that there was a alien spaceship travelling behind the Hale-Bopp comet in 1997. Hope this helps!!! ( I also heard that they had a website, but I don't think that they would have that up anymore.) I also went to a meeting with these people that were called 'Gnostics' and they believed in some really crazy stuff!!! (at least the people I met did believe in crazy crap!)

A religion is just a cult with more followers.

Characteristically, cults use more deliberate and overt brain washing techniques, but it is really just a matter of degree... the result is the same, blind devotion to the particular dogma.

Whether your dogma is to cut off your testicles commit suicide in order to get transport on the giant spaceship; or that Xenu executed people with atomic bombs in a volcano and their souls inhabit us, or that God turned himself into a man and performed some snazzy,( though kind of lame), magic tricks then was killed, came back to life, and floated into the sky to be with himself.

Of course all cults are bad, that's why they're called cults.
I'd love to help.

the cult of Catholicism would be a good place to start.

to Jibba...Jones was a false prophet who deceived many. What he taught was hardly Christianity, or better yet, born again Christianity. Jesus said in John 3:3 'Unless you are born again, you willnot see the Kingdom of God'
