If you just wish to relax your mind, all you need to do is sit in a quiet place in a comfortable position, close your eyes and just let your mind run free.
However, if you wish to meditate for spiritual purpose or to enhance your mind power, you will need a Guru ( teacher or master ). The reason is that when you attempt to meditate on spiritual or mind notes, you will interact with your subtle inner being and your sub concsious mind. Without knowledge and guidance, this may lead to unwanted physical, mental and emotional problems.

You can look for meditating groups in your area. There are many who meditate with out any religious ideals. If you were more interested in meditation and religion do a goggle search for Zen centers, or Amithaba foundations, Buddhist temples etc they will teach you...
it really isn't that hard.... good luck to you
