His symptoms are likely due to the very high caffeine content in that beverage. It's unlikely that the drink helped him win the track meet, it was probably more that he "believed" he would have improved performance from drinking the Monster. As a parent, I'd be concerned about the side effects of too much caffeine. Some people have very strong reactions to caffeine, including irregular heartbeat. Cocaine is not availabe in commercially sold beverages.

Oh the Monster!! I am nearly 30 and I must say that Monster is my favorite drink. I can drink 4 cans in a few hours time and be wired for the rest of the day or night. Never had any eye twitching, but if I don't eat much that day, I tend to grind my teeth or chew the inside of my jaw. I have been told by a few people who have used meth, that the effects of Monster is very similar. I do not know that for sure myself, but that is what they say. I would say it is the high dose of caffine that is causing him to have the eye twitching and not being able to sleep.

If you look at the back of the can, it will show what is in it and how much of that ingredient is in it,also to help you understand the side affects more, you can check the link out I provided below. Usually, these drinks are not "supposed"to be addictive, but I have heard of a few stories that prove they are. And like I said, they are my favorite drink, well Monster Kaos is.
