Is Mormonism a Cult?
What is a cult? This is from Websters:
1 : formal religious veneration : WORSHIP
2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents
4 : a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator
5 a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b : the object of such devotion c : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion
Based the first two definitions, Mormonism would be a cult because they worship, a it can be fairly defined as a system of religious belief. Using the same standards, Christianity is also a cult.
The third definition hinges on the Unorthodox element. I cannot fairly say that Mormons, after 200 years are still Unorthodox.
Except for the last defintion, the dogma of a following is irrelevent to it's status as a cult. I see no great difference between the book of Morman and the Bible in a definitional sense here.
Therefore the Mormans are no more a cult than any form of christianity. Both are fairly described as cults.

It's been said before: A cult is a religion with bad PR.
Actually, 'cult' has a technical definition that is nowhere near the Drink The Kool-Aid concept. The original meaning is that of the particular rites and rituals to worship a particular god. So, in that sense, communion is a part of the cult of Christianity.

Yes,
A non-Christian cult begun in 1830 by Joseph Smith. The Mormon church, also known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, denies the historic Trinity and efficacious atonement. Some of its unique doctrines are that God used to be a man on another world who became a God and came to this world with one of his wives. We all are literally born in heaven as spirit brothers and sisters and then inhabit human bodies on earth.

I do feel that the LDS church is a cult, in some ways. They believe that their prophets triumph the Bible. They don't think you should have a personal relationship with Jesus. They are so off the mark on so many things. They will say "Oh but His name is in the title of our church". I think that is just for show.

Mormons are Christians and their religion asks that they follow God. They have a few other rules thrown in, but what Christian group doesn't. The prejudice of the religious never ceases to amaze me.....

Christianity is a cult, centered around a Dead man, who they must follow. He is the figure head of the cult.

They believe in Jesus as god. That is the basic tenet . All Christians are the same.
