If you really want expensive here is a short list. Unless noted, these are downtown.
Charlie Trotter's
Alinea
Tru
Arun's - my favorite
Everest
Moto
Le Francis (Wheeling)
Carlos' (Highwood)
Gabriel's (Highwood)
Tallgrass (Lockport)
Morton's
Gibson's
Spiaggia
Coco Pazzo

There are many, many more, but this list has a little of everything.
These will cost you upward of $200 PER PERSON or even more.
Look them up on Metromix and see if this is what you are looking for.

Try Geja's Cafe in Lincoln Park, It's next to the Park West on Armitage. They specialize in fondue. The restaurant is small, dark, intimate and has one of the largest wine lists in the city, and has flamenco music in the background. You will need to get there early as they only take reservations for the first seating and after that the waits can be LONG! It also allows time to sit and enjoy your date as you're cooking your food at the table. I always order the connoisseur for 2, it includes cheese fondue, (absolutely delicious!), beef tenderloin, shrimp, lobster, veges and a superb chocolate fondue! I think that costs about 45.00 per person. check out their website at gejascafe.com. Trotters, Tru, Tallgrass are all wonderful also, but are much more expensive, (let him take you there with income tax $)

Just for the record, I think Waldeck's list is very good.

You'll never forget Tru I am sure. And for my $$, that's the pick of the list.

Try RoseBuds. The original one. Not too expensive but very good.
