no they sleep laying down and they can sit too, they won't die and they can get back up, check out this web site,

another reason they sleep standing up is because if they were to lay down they would become easy prey for predators. they would not be able to get up in a hurry.

They stand up if they lay down that they will die.

but anyways they sleep standing up unless they are like less then 1 month old. I dont no why but they just do.

Actually they kneel down to sleep. I went to the Bronx zoo and saw them sleeping.

standing up unless they are very young, cuz they are very large and once they lay down its difficult for them 2 stand up again cuz of their weight
