Was it wrong for the Greeks to defend themselves against the Persians? Was it wrong to help the French defeat the Germans in World War I? Was it wrong to stop the Nazis in Europe, and the Japanese in Asia in World War II? If you answered 'No' to anyone of the questions above, then you know that sometimes war in defense of liberty is not wrong.

Are you kidding me?
War is neither right nor wrong. It is a necessary response to some situations and an improper response to others. It is necessary to start one in some cases and objectionable to start one in others.
If the army of another country invades yours, would you be asking this question? War is an imperfect tool at best. I see technology and social advances replacing it in the near future, but in the here and now, it simply is and must be. No right, no wrong, only necessity.

To paraphrase - war is defined as an action taken when all other political means have failed. War is when two or more countries or peoples cannot and will not agree on a subjuct but both cannot disagree and live peacefully together. It should always be a last resort. All other means of resolving the issue through ambassadors, the secretary of state have failed so only one side will be standing at the end of the war and that side will win the debate.
For instance, there are many issues in our country such as abortion, education, gun rights, reverse racism, etc which cannot be solved through the political process any longer. What is the next step, either one side accepts the other or we fight.
From the perspective of God and the Bible. War is justified by soverign nations. God established governments and gave them the right to make war. Killing in war is justified as long as you are killing enemy combatants. For instance, when we declared war against Japan we were within our sovereign right to do so, and those who killed the enemy did not sin.
During the revolutionary war, our leaders declared independance and sovereignty from England. Therefore, we were a legitimate nation and had the right to fight England for our independance. The same with the civil war, the southern states decided to establish their own confederate nation seperate from the north.
Hilter decided to invade poland in WWII and the English and others decided to fight Germany and if they wouldn't have who knows what would have happened in Europe. Although, it really couldn't be any worse than it is now. I doubt Hitler would've allowed massive muslims hordes to invade their land. But obviously we cannot defend him since he murdered innocents and that is never right. Hitler didnt exhaust his polical and non-warring options prior to invading Poland, therefore he conducted war without reason. We must try to solve things peaceably but when we can't, we have to go to arms to defend our people and way of life.
That is the area that is always hard to know, when have we done enough peacefully before we go to war? With our current situation, I really don't think we can expect the muslim hordes to ever change their ways or to return to the political process, therefore, we must defend ourselves. That is why our war in Iraq is justified, we simply cannot wait for them to come to us. The muslims are not confined to any particular country, this war is not between nations but between religions and cultures. So, Iraq is as good as any other place to have this war. This truly is a global war and there are states within states, ie lebanon and hezbollah. Christian and Muslims cannot co-exist, especially in today's world. Before when there were only swords and bows, it was contained. Now with the mixture of cultures into the west we have let a viper into our bed. Technolgy and travel have created a mess that we can only resolve by killing them or them killing us. All politcal methods have failed.
So, in conclusion war is sometimes right and justified, but only when all political and other means have been exhausted. Very good question, I hope you find what you are looking for.

I am sure there are some aspects of 'war' justifiable...however...war is the ultimate example of communication failure.
The 'cost' of war is inhumane, and declaration of war by a government is a horrible example of negotiation.
Personally, i find it easier to forgive an individual for murder, than to forgive a government for a war.
But then... my feelings rise from battlefields far away and long ago.. i haven't quite ever caught up with the world seance then...the journeys Ive taken avoiding the traumas of war have been distracting,..to say the least.

It is not that simple. Do you mean the war in Iraq, or all war?
All war is wrong on someone's part. Hitler was wrong when he invaded Poland and didn't do anything Right until he committed suicide. The Allies were Right to fight back.
Both sides cannot be right, but both sides could be wrong.

Great question. And there is not always a good answer. Most of the time it is wrong to solve anything with violence, but sometimes there is no ther way. I really don't see that any of the wars right now are just.

The Marines used to have a wonderful slogan. "No one wants to fight, but someone has to know how". If 90% of the human race was peaceful and advanced, they would have to hire one group of 5% to protect them from the other 5%. That's just the way it is. Right or wrong? Was it wrong to defend the world from Hitler and the Nazis? Was it wrong to protect the world from Imperialist Japan? Was it wrong to want to keep countries from going Communist? Was it wrong to want to protect our interests in the middle East? On a more personal note, would you kill to protect your children, your wife, your mother? If you wouldn't, then you really don't care much about them, do you?

War itself is neither, it just is. Without aggression man would have become extinct millions of years ago. War for profit, like IRAQ is wrong.

You can fight them, or you can let them take over the world because that's their aim and purpose. I will not go quietly into that night.
