Firstly i want to say something and im sure this will possibly get deleted for it not being a question but i want to clear up any misconceptions that people have about us.

Firstly i am an Atheist and for some reason many think that just because someone is an atheist we are automatically bad people well id like to just tell everyone who thinks that how wrong you are.

To be an Atheist it dosent mean we have given up on life or think that religion is something to be hated it just means that we dont agree with the idea that there is a god watching over us and judging us for everything that we do.

Secondly we are not people who enjoy ridiculing other peoples beliefs but you have to admit when you see someones comment about religion or a question you cant help but think sometimes how odd it sounds such as "is it a sin to meditate" or "will i go to hell for listening to KISS"

Thirdly id like to say we dont hate religion or its followers we just dont agree with the idea of it.

Just because we dont believe in a god dosent meen we are filled with hate most of us are actually nice people who accept people from every race, faith and sexuality prefference we have came to these ideas through our own choices and not imposed on us from a book that has been rewritten by many people.

(Umm... little persecution complex there?)

I am an atheist also, and I do basically hate religion. I think anything that keeps people believing in the supernatural is bad for progress. I think any belief that fuels race hatred or starts wars is despicable. I think any group that tries to make my kid pray before taking a test in school is deplorable. I think faith based religious organizations have no business influencing how my government spends my tax dollars.

Shall I go on.

Your "live and let live" mentality is a sure-fire way to get stepped on.

I am a Christian and I am firmly rooted in that belief system. Now my brother has a doctorate and has also studied all the major religions and sects in Christendom. He is an avowed atheist. He is a very moral person, a good family man, and very respectful of my and other people Christian beliefs as long as they are not imposed on him at work. I respect him and his choice and sometimes we joke about our beliefs but always with respect.
So knowing an atheist very well, I totally agree with what you say.
Some atheists on here, however, seem just as scatterbrain as some Christians and some have never delved into religion deep enough, as my brother did, and ridicule us and call us names.
I know you don't and most don't. But there is disrespect on both sides.

I don't believe that Atheists are bad people. I think they have made an incorrect choice in not believing in God. As I have said, heaven/hell is a choice made by each person when they decide what to do with God and His Son. I'm sure there are many wonderful people out there who are Atheists. I know it because I know them personally. Fortunately, I am able to not let their choice of belief (or disbelief) stand in the way of friendship. In other words, I can agree to disagree. Can you?

Yes, and most of us know this. I happen to have alot of respect for many atheists on this site, and for those that I know personally. There are also alot of Christians who don't think that Atheists in general are immoral, evil, or hateful ... its just the misconceptions between everyone else that causes a problem.

Have a nice day.

As a Christian, I have absolutely no problem with you being an Atheist, though obviously I disagree...

But are you not contradicting yourself by saying "secondly we are not people who enjoy ridiculing other peoples beliefs but..." as I see it was not intentional no problem.

Great attitude you have, pity print ninja and others like him and (before anyone thinks I am getting in a cheap shot) Christians who seem to do nothing but offend by ignorance and sarcasm would not adopt the same attitude.

Krayden with every ounce of my being I disagree with you and your beliefs but I can agree to disagree :-) and truthfully I am a little embarrassed that it takes a 'non Christian' to throw out an 'olive branch' as it were...

First of all,
I am a Christian and I have loads of Aetheist friends. I love them alot and let's just say that Christians aren't all that stuffy either! I mean, everyone's human, Christians make the same mistakes as Aetheists. But when I come up to my friends, I seriously won't think, "OMG, they're going to hell." because that's just stupid!!
Sir, I am praying for you. Even if you don't care for what others have shown you in my faith, I still want to let you know that I love you because you are God's child and for that, you are very special.

In canada 3% of the population said they belived in the force form starwars and 30% of canadians dont have a religion at all ( not even atheism) so I dont hate you at all, but you must admit that you find yourself asking a lot more questions and in some cases getting annoyed with the prospect of not knowing, mind you some people enjoy this, so no I dont hate you, because you also make up a large population in my country.

Have you looked into Pascal's Wager?

Pascal was the genius that first came up with a mechanical calculator in the 1600's.

He was also a philospher.

His wager goes something like this:
Step up to the table and place your wager, for wager you must.
If the athiest is right and the Christian is wrong, and they both die, then they have both lived their lives as they please and according to the dictates of their own hearts. No one wins, no one loses.
But if the Christian is right, and there is a God, and there is eternal rewards and eternal punishments; then when the athiest dies, he goes to Hell by his own choice, and the Christian goes to heaven, not by his choice but by God's grace through his faith. The athiest loses, and the Christian wins.

Step up to the table and place your wager, for wager you must. Deciding not to decide is a decision and places your wager against God; waiting is a decision, and places your wager; again, against God.

Are you willing to place your wager on Kant, or Descartes? Or will you place you wager on the God who loves you so much that "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."

You don't sound like a bad person. You sound like an honest person.

Most people aren't honest about their beliefs and attack those who are. I'm a Christian and I don't believe in ridiculing other peoples beliefs either.

However, I will pray for you. Perhaps, one day you will not disagree with those of us who believe in God and Jesus as our personal Savior.

I think you have put you case very well. I believe that all people should get along. It is OK to differ. Investigating all aspects of life and faith is part of life. You have made a good point about your belief. I differ but that cannot keep us from communicating
or sharing our belief.

As a Christian I find atheists for the most part to be searching for truth albeit from a different perspective. That is a common goal I share with them. Many also have a great sense of humor and tend to lighten things up. Thanks for your question.
