My friend says I'm a control freak sometimes, and I think I just like the power I have over my equals. It makes me feel important. Whenever my friend points it out to me though, I realize that it's annoying when someone else is like that so I try to tone it down a bit. Maybe if the control freak knew he/she was being one they would mellow it down a bit. Try confronting them in a very friendly and subtle way, careful not to offend them. Or if it's not too too bad, let them enjoy the power they have, and the important feeling they have. I hope it helps. And be sure to be VERY nice if you confront them.

Not very well. I guess you could say I'm a bit of one. Being a woman and having anyone else try to control me or what I do angers me. I have a mind of my own and can think for myself. Control freaks can do what they want on their own time, but if there's others involved they need to curb their need for control. Several people I know come to my mind when I think of control freaks...they need to "chill out". Life is too short. Controlling everything all the time is exhausting, let it go once in awhile.

Never give in. Do the opposite of what they expect. Power over someone else is usually a dillusion and also a sign of drug and or alcoholism. Control freaks often have a complex of their own inferiority and rely on belittling others to build themselves up. Often we feel we have no choice because of our social position but to give in to them but we always have a choice as long as our jobs, social position, friendship, family relations are not on the line. Often a control freak relies on social status or something they can blackmail you with. This makes it obvious they do not control but use cunning ways to persuade you to go along with their demands.
There are those that do need to listen and this should not be confused with a person being controlled. There are folks that need constant prodding just to act remotely civil. Which applies to you?

I explain to them that while I know they like control I was repeatedly abused by an alcholic over controlling father who after many years I had to blugion to death with his own work boot and that through counseling I was able to return to society but I never know what might trigger my deeply seated anger to come to the forefront once more . This usually gets said control freak to look else where for gradification

My co-worker is a control freak. She blew a gasket yesterday because I did something wrong. I was really mad at first. But now I realize I just have to let her have her way. She has seniority. When she blows again, I'm going to just say to myself, "pull over, let her pass...and allow her to have her accident some other place!"

Let them have complete control, and then watch them spin out of control, it is fun to watch as their heads start to turn blue, and then turns in complete circles!!

Seriously though, hand them the controls, and then sit back and do NOTHING, see how long that lasts. When they yell, and they will, tell them that you will help, so long as they take into consideration what you are offering.

By not letting them control your emotions, that is how they maintain control.

Not enough info to tell you. Generally, body language does a lot. Stand your ground, literally. Meet their eye. Tell them in a low, firm, calm voice "No, I'm going to do that myself." If they keep trouncing on you, just repeat yourself, calmly, slowly - keeping eye contact.
