Discord is totally and completely correct!!! Not only did the Hearst man want control...he offered the attorney general (at the time) money and support to send literature to the masses of people describing Marijuana as a demon drugl that would turn your children from good to useless and evil. The majority of people believed all of this info without question. Some doctors and scientists and research groups grew curious of such blanket talk that they found the most of the research found by the attorney general was bogus. But of course it was difficult to convince people of our nation that one of its leaders and some of his followers were not telling the whole truth when it came to clinical studies. At one point before it was indefinitely illegal...a person could buy and carry marijuana but had to get an official tax stamp...in order to get the official government stamp...you had to have the marijuana on your person....herein the loophole. If you carried it without the "tax stamp" you were in violation of the law....if you didn't carry it TO GET the "tax stamp" you could not be issued a stamp. It turns out that the government never actually produced a stamp at all. It was just a toxic misuse of the law.
But yes, I agree.....I think that half of the people who use Zoloft and similar drugs should probably smoke pot instead....They would be much better off!!! If the government was smart...they would legalize it, tax it and bye bye deficit!!

Hemp was outlawed, not because of marijuana, but because hemp products were direct competition for other products. Hemp paper is superior to pulp paper, but the Hearst family owned forests to destroy for paper so they bought off congressmen to outlaw hemp. The Dupont family had created rayon, nylon and other synthetics. Hemp cloth was superior to both, and even cotton, and cheaper, too, so the Dupont family rode the back of the Hearsts, also bought off more congressmen, and made certain that hemp was outlawed. One of the main opponents of hemp in modern times is the elder George Bush, and yet he owes his life to hemp. The parachute he used during WW2 was most likely made of hemp cloth. Oh yeah, the original Gutenberg Bible is printed on hemp paper and is still readable. Do you think any of the books printed on pulp paper will still be readable in another 400 years?
