what he's trying to do is become friends with you and have you think about him in a good way. when u and him get close enough he wants to ask you out. its a method a lot of guys use to try to get a girl to say yes when they ask her out.

It really depends on the guys personality, your prior relationship with him, how mature he is, and how old he is. I know when I was about 11 -12 I would throw stuff at Amber all the time but once we got to junior high, I just straight out told her I liked her.
