I'm 20 years old 5'4", and weigh approx 240. I was 150 and a size 13 my freshman year in h.s and I'd give anything to be that again. I was perfectly content with myself, and then everyone started bitching at me about my weight saying I was a fat a**. I don't know why, but the weight started to gain, and it's really getting to me.

I hate only having 2-3 stores to shop in, always thinking about my weight, but whenever I go to try a diet or w/e, something always tells me 'No.' I can start to feel a difference when I walk, that I am breathing harder and things like that. I've tried weight watchers, those low carb diets, I've tried creating my own, counting only calories, all of it. I don't really believe in diet pills, but I'm that desperate that I'm willing to try whatever.

I don't know what to do. If anyone has any suggestions, please, anything.....

I think the main problem is motivation. Every time I try a new diet, something always tells me 'No' like I shouldn't be doing this. No matter how hard I try to convince myself, it just doesn't feel like I'm doing it for myself/the right reason, if that makes much sense.

The other problem is I love on campus at school, and if any of you know campus food, it isn't the healthiest, and besides salads and wraps, you can really monitor what they make and what they put in the food.

If you can afford it, the first thing you should do is consult a nutritionist. (s)he can tell You exactly what *you* need to be eating and not eating to effect your weight. (A low carb diet wont help you a bit if your actual problem is too much protein will it?)

Then after you adjust your diet accordingly, STICK TO IT. Even a little cheating can set you back!

Don't forget to integrate a realistic workout regularly (that you stick too!) and viola! Weight loss!

My suggestion would be to exercise and eat foods with alot of carbohydrates. Carbs are ok if you use them all up, if not, they just turn to fat. Or, the body first breaks down carbohydrates, then fats, then proteins, so eat some carbs but not alot, and more greens. ( lettus however cannot be digested but it does make you feel full.) eat miminal carbs but be sure to eat some. you will be very tired, and when you find yourself lacking energy, eat an apple, or any other fruit for some quick energy. You'd get skinny before you know it, the only draw back is that you'd be very tired very often. My son does track and he needs about 6000 calories a day. depending on how active you are, you may only need 2000-3000. my estimate, day at the office-2500, laywer- 3500, mountain biking-5000 just use ur best judgement, and remeber god made you exactly how you were supposted ot be, so don't feel bad. feel goood about your self, and just work on that.

While it is difficult to address how you can lose weight without knowing your lifestyle, let just give a few tips you could put to use right away.

1. Stay away from pills, some may work but you will lose alot of money finding those, which dont work too well anyways.

2. Dont ever go by a hype diet. These include atkins and south beach diets.

3. Just be active, whether you decide you wanna jog a little with a dog or walk around the park.

4. Do all the little things. Park further away, dont use the elevator, walk around your block when you want to check the mail, etc.

I understand. The first thing you might want to consider is doing some research on hypothyroidism. It may not be your fault that you have gained the weight. Also you may have other conditions that relate to insulin problems (too much or too little). Don't be so hard on yourself, and forget what other people have to say. Your are the only one who have to live with your body.

If you are not happy with your body, then try to find some help for yourself, but for the right reasons. Find yourself a good doctor, whether it be your family physician or an endocrinologist/ob-gyn. Find someone you can trust and don't try to go it alone.

There are many support sites on the web that can point you in the right direction once you figure out where it is you want to be.

Join a gym. Find classes that you enjoy and do them 5 days a week. Lift weights also.

As far as eating, drink a lot of water (especially before meals), fill up on vegetables and snack on fruits or nuts.

You can get back to a good weight. Don't give up!

Join a gym and don't worry about what other people think. I'm 20, 5'8, and weigh 200lbs. I was able to get down to 175 last summer but I'm back up to 200. In high school, my highest weight was 225. I'm sure them talking about you didn't help matters any, it just made it worse. Drink plenty of water. Good luck!

Disclaimer: I am not dissing at you or something. What I'm about to write might hurt you but it is said with the utmost respect and intent to help you.

You might need to go to a psychiatrist. Those "no" you cope with are might be obsessions. I know because I've had them (in a completely unrelated field). I got to the point in which I couldn't take a college test without handwriting an entire book! Please, seek help. You'll understand what a burden these things are only after having taken some medications... it will be liberating to you, promised.

Try Bob Greene or Dr. Oz (Oprah's personal dr and trainer). Dr. Oz has an awesome book called "YOU: On a Diet -- A guide to health and Waist Management". You will laugh but learn how to control your weight without even trying hard. Bob Greene can be found on Oprah's website, or just do a search for him. He's great with nutrition and excercise tips.

Well just think about it this way dieting is not going to get you anywhere, but once you try to exercise that can make all the difference in the world. The motivation is your part. no one can tell you why you wnat to do something. Its just something you feel within. I know what youre going through cuz i just ended up losing 50 pounds in about 9 months but with the dieting you get so carrried away when youre off of it that you gain again. so i advise you to be very careful and to do whats best for your health.

I am sorry, believe me I know how you feel. My mother is obese my sister is obese and I am at the present time obese. I once read a definition in the doctors office that said 50lbs. over your normal weight is obese. Here is what I do. I drink skim milk only and not much of that. I don't starve myself because then your body stores fat. I don't buy that diet stuff anymore! I watch my calories, carbs, fat and protein. The protein will burn the fat. They say half to three quarters of your weight is the amount of grams of protein you are supposed to have in one day. Watch the back of the packages close. Do not buy any hydrogenated oil foods. I could go on and on if you want to e-mail me and we will chat.
