Throughout the Quran it says to deal justly with nonbelievers and to live peacefully with them. I can understand where the misconceptions about islam developed but I do not understand why people say that the Quran is a violent book even after reading it.
"Say : O ye that reject Faith! I worship not that which ye worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. To you be your Way, and to me mine. (The Noble Quran, 109:1-6)"
nowhere in the Quran does it tell you to kill an innocent. it only tells you to kill people who fight with you or oppress you. the most quoted is surah 9:5. Unforunately no one bothers to look at the history behind the battle
do you really think this stereotype of islam is correct? I'm only trying to defend Islam itself, and not the mistakes certain muslims have made. Islam does not teach what they preach. sry abt rhyme :P

Tolerance/Patience is the ability to remain internally calm {at peace), and undisturbed in the face of harm or difficulties.
Just because a book {whether the Qur'an, the Bible, the Tanak) says its religion is tolerant, that does not necessarily mean the religion is honestly tolerant.
What is the sign of a patient and tolerant religion ? If the people within the religion are internally calm {peaceful) and undisturbed in the face of harm and difficulties, then they are tolerant !
The reason why many people think Islam, as well as Judaism and Christianity is not Patient, Tolerant is because of all the holy wars in the name of your religions, and in the name of your God. If people are internally calm, having inner peace, they will not harm others.
Remember, Patience and Tolerance is the ability to remain internally calm {peaceful) and undisturbed in the face of harm and difficulties. If people are internally calm, and at peace mentally, then they will also be externally calm and at peace as well. IF you, or anyone reading this is angry with this answer, this is an indication that you are not patient/tolerant = internally calm, {internally at peace), in the face of difficulties. And true patience/tolerance must be cultivated.
The only religion that I observe and see as Patient and Tolerant is Buddhism. There has never been a war in the name of Buddhism. Because they practice their founding principle of - "Do No Harm to anyone."

No Islam is a tolerant religion. Islam teaches respect of all religions and minorities. You even see minorities living in Muslim countries. Especially In Malaysia where there is so religious harmony. People today have the feeling that Islam is intolerant looking at a particular nation. Islam is practiced in more than 52 countries. Looking at one country does not emphasize the correct picture of Islam.

so far, this is one question i found which doesnt attach false quote from quran and refuse 100%-ly to look at islam in a different way...but i do think those who think islam is intolerant is stereotype about it...they actually listen to others, eg: media n other influencial people in their lives...not actually developing their thoughts out of their own findings and researches...

Anyway...if islam or muslims were into violence...as the second largest religion in the world with million of folowers non muslims would have been killed years ago...
