-i dont mean the street drug
-i know that drug and medicine are practically the same thing and can be used interchangeably
-i have to write an essay about how they are different in reference to something like marijuana for example or caffeine, alcohol, etc.
-so i would like some more information...how are they different? does one have a connotation that the other doesnt? could the same substance be both things? how? please give examples in detail.

all medications are drugs. not all drugs are medications. a drug is any substance that alters you physicaly mentally emotionally or psychologicaly. a medication is a substance that is used to alter you physically mentally emotionally or psychologicaly to fix a health related problem. thats how they have medicinal marijuana and normal marijuana. there is absolutely no diference between the two besides what they are used for. they are both drugs but one is used as a medicine for health related reasons and the other for purely recreational reasons. the same goes for anything, medications can be taken non medicinally and what are commonly known as just street drugs can be taken as a medicine. basically it comes down to medicine is just a more specific term of the word drug. at one time methadone was seen as a medicine to cure people of addiction to heroine but now it is mainly seen as just a drug since it never really solved the problem just made a new one.
