Doing chores teaches you responsibility as you are becoming a growing adult. Doing chores also keeps you out of trouble. You help out mom and dad after they have had a long day. Helps you to understand that living in a family involves work. Chores reinforce team effort within a family. You also learn to become self-reliant and it builds self esteem. You learn necessary life skills and the ability to prioritize and organize.

Chores are good for you for a variety of reasons. I would say number one would be to teach you self disipline and responsibility and so you don't get lazy. It's also good so you live a healthy and long life. The majority of seniors I know who are living a long life is due to keeping busy and not just laying back in bed or a lazy boy. Its also good for the obvious reason of keeping up with the everyday tasks as not to fall behind, get clusstered or just plain dirty.

It gets kids ready for adulthood. Some kids have their parents wait on them hand and foot and are too spoiled to clean up after themselves when they move out. It is a rude awakening when you're forced to start doing everything for yourself after being totally dependent on parents all your life. What kind of adults, or future parents would this make? When you transition into being a parent yourself, you suddenly have to wait hand and foot on a baby and all the work and chores that come with it, talk about a wake up call.

As you get older you need to learn responsibility. You also need to realize that being part of a family means you should share in the work that needs to be done for a family to function well. Plus, what kind of parent would let you go out into the world without working knowledge of how to do the simple basic needs of life...like laundry, dishes, sweeping & mopping, how to clean any room in the house etc... Otherwise your apartment would be a trash heap and you wouldn't have any clean underware!!! ewwwww. lol

Oh, where to begin. . .

Builds self-esteem (completing something/helping out)
Breeds responsibility (the "R" word)
Enhances basic motor skills
Helps out Mom and Dad
Teaches natural consequences (don't take out the trash = very stinky house)
Teaches work ethic
Teaches that nothing comes for free
Helps teach basic caretaking skills
One can learn Karate (wax on, wax off. . . ha ha)
And. . . You help mess up, you help clean up

Chores suck. But they need to be done.

More hands means faster work. Otherwise, if there's only one person doing them, that person is going to get fed up and usually ***** about it making everyone else's life hell.

For one they teach you how to take care of your home when you get one.
Then it teaches you that nothing comes for free you need to earn your keep. Since you are not paying rent or the morgage you need to keep the house clean
Then finally teaches you to be responsible
