-Basicly my computer has started running super slow, whenever i play music it sounds like im playing a cd that has had sand-paper taken to it, video is worse, this got a little better after i uped my ram (1 gb now) but it still happens
- I play Halo online alot (pc game) and i cant join any games because of the speed im running at, if i do somehow get in w/o timing out of server conection its too lagy to work
-If i play campaign it runs OK but not great, except, when it saves a checkpoint or loads a section of the map, then it runs S L O W to the fifth power.......

All the other times I had this problem I had to re-install my system, this time i cant re-install cause i have no way of backing up...help

naw it isnt a compaq(sp?), i was debating getting circut citys laptop which was a compaq(sp?) but we had first in line at best buy so long story short i just got that one which was a little cheaper and had the same hardware specks just not as much pre-loaded software, Nehow, what speaker thing are u talkin about, when my speakers get a little louder than normal (like all the way up w/ pre-amp software on) they squeak on some of the lower notes but thats not exactly like what u were describing, thanks for all the help btw

Good job getting avast and running it. Do ctrl alt delete and see what's using your processing power. task manager, processes. I had an issue where a trojan horse had hijacked print sharing. It was using about 98% processing power. Turned off print sharing. All is well now. I would download adaware, spybot search and destroy, ccleaner, and spyware blaster. Also the microsoft one, MS Defender works good I'm told. Run all these, delete any programs you don't need. Buy an external HD and transfer all your data. If it still is running like crap, reload! I've had to do that also, many times. I think you got a trojan horse, or something like that.

One other thing, maybe your power supply is dying? Just a thought...

Ahh! A laptop! Is it a compaq? I get that wierd crackly speaker thing once in a while on my laptop... I did download the newest sound driver, you may go out and look for that, no matter what the manufacturer is... it only does it when logging in from standby now...

Here's the links, BTW, I've tried and use most of these still, if you don't like using any of them, just remove after trying....

Could be a overheating power supply or CPU problem. Are all your cooling fans running? Make sure they're not crudded up with dust. Get a can of air and blast out the crud.

Just a guess... but when my computer was doing the same, it turned out to be the fan on the power supply.
