You did not mention the pistol manufacture or if it's a factory magazine or not...that would make it easier for me to answer correctly.

Yes, it is normal. After a while you'll get used to it. Some guns (like Glocks) include a 'thumb-saver' with the new guns. It makes loading easier but is tricky to use.

I have the same problem with a 22 all I did is left all the shells in the clip for a day and weakened the spring.

itll take shooting a full clip and reloading it atleast 10 times before the spring will start to loosen up. it will get easier with time, you could you a small amount of oil, but i would go with just shooting it, the oil can wreak havock on your gun and clip if you use too much and dont clean up the excess. just go shoot everything is normal.

You can get loading tools which help a lot. Basically, they fit over the magazine and help you push one bullet down to get another one started in.

the clip spring is very springy...it will take a while before the coils soften up. You can just load and unload continuously until it is easy.
its normal..
now go shoot something....

little gun oil will do the trick. I have 16 guns and they all started out that way.
