Neither. It's a last resort to someone hurting so much that they can't see any other way out of that pain. The view of such things needs to be from the angle of the victim, not from the bitterness of survivors.
It should not be glorified as a strong thing...someone who is hurting that bad has had their strength sapped by the pain as it is...I'm sure they don't feel strong. But my guy was not weak either...I don't think he knew how strong he really was and that life could still get better...
No one is quite in their right mind if they do such a thing...how can people be so harsh to the victims.
P.S. It amazes me that so many people say that it's a weakness because they couldn't simply suck it up, be strong and deal with life. Do these people think most do such a thing after two crappy bad days? No, most people have been dealing with bad problems and depression, and their mind just obsessed with it, for A LONG TIME, probably even years. Most people don't just have a couple of bad days and give up...most people try to deal with it for quite some time and they eventually give up when they just can't take it anymore and see any way out of their pain.

both. takes alot of strength to actually go through with it. alot of pain too. but also weakness because suicide is giving up and backing out of something you cant handle . which is the definition of weakness. some people take a good beating from this world. daily.
but its all the more reason to continue on and win. so the greatest act of strength . even stronger than going through with suicide. is waiting it out. and moving on with life.

That would depend on the motivation for the suicide... to deliberately give your life so that others might live would require great inner strength...and then... if there have just been too many overwhelming tragedies in ones life and one more is too much for the mind to handle... is there understandable cause there?... a lot of variables to take into account...As one of The True Christian Faith the first would be acceptable... the second would not... it would not condem a believer by the act it's self... but it is against The Will of God for man.

I've never thought of it as a strength or weakness thing- but rather something that was an answer to your problems. I always felt that it was a tool to end the pain, a way to stop the feeling and emotion. Usually, people focus on pain- so shooting ones' self in the head isn't going to hurt as much as stabbing ones' self to death. Often I think that is where the focus lies, because who wants to feel pain?

Different cultures and religions have different ways of viewing suicide.
Personally, I think it takes a great deal of courage to take your own life, particularly as in the case of terminal illness or being captured by the enemy in wartime. People often do not realize that someone who does commit suicide does so because they are in a great deal of pain and see no other option but to end their lives.

Both. Although it is much more an act of weakness than strength.
For the reason one would use the strength to go through with it is only to put an end to their life of weakness and/or failure instead of fighting till the end.

Suicide is an act of desperation. It is a decision one makes when it appears to be that there is no other way to escape a particular dilemma. There are suggestions that suicide is also related to rage, since many suicides kill themselves to cause pain to others.
It is the most disturbing symptom of depression, which is an illness that in most cases can be treated.

A strong act in a weak state. Meaning: it is obviously not an easy thing to do, it is the act of a desperate person. But it is the act of someone who "can't take it any more". The person is looking at his or her immediate mental or physical suffering, and not looking at the lnog-term results of suffering (and how can ou look at the long term resutlts of suffering, when you are right in the middle of it?)
I would encourage anyone to just hang on though, even if it is only out of a sense of duty if there is nothing else left: you don't want to cheat your fellow man of what you can do to serve them; you don't want to cheat yourself of a useful life. Neither do you want to cheat yourself of all the wonderful things you can learn in this life. Or cheat God of his wonderful plan for your life.

It can be neither because its a matter of both.
Its strength enough to realise that you alone in that moment can determine whether you continue to live, yet it is a weakness because it becomes an easy way out for many and a failure of character because they wont face upto their problems.
