I would never allow someone I met through a newspaper ad to live in my home and care for my children. You should sign up with an agency, and they can do a background check, and then people will be able to trust you more easily. I mean, ANYONE can put an ad in the paper - you could be a serial killer for all the parent would know. No responsible parent would choose their nanny this way. Would you? Try www.nanny.org for some ideas.

The only other suggestion I have is to put the word out among other people you know that you're wanting to get in this line of work. I *might* allow a friend of a friend to live in my home and care for my child, if she came highly recommended.

You're going to need to learn to drive - what if there were a medical emergency?

The driving part might be a big issue. I know it would be a problem with me. I would want a nanny to take my children places as well as able to transport in case of emergency.

I totally agree with Amy. Most people would feel more comfortable picking a nanny from an agency. I wish you the best of luck.

Most people who actually hire nannys live in large citites and most people need someone who can drive to do the chores they can't do. You would be better off offering to sit in their home but not be a official live in.

I found three of my nanny jobs through the first, and a weekend nanny job through the last.

Make sure you have references, clearances (if available in your state), CPR is usually wanted so take a course if you haven't already, etc.
