It all depends, there are officers that go above and beyond the call of duty, and there a a very few who just do their shift, and earn a paycheck, but these are on a very small percentage. Some officers go volunteer work, do outreach projects, like going to schools and speaking with the students about drug awareness and crime, and the pros and cons of everyday life, many donate their time to charities, and just really go out of their way to help their public, total strangers and give not only with their time, but with their heart. It is a thankless job, and they are met every day with many dangers, but many would not want it any other way, and I am one of those. Good luck on your project and I hope I helped a little.??

I would define a effective police officer as somebody who loves to go out and protect the community and who is commited to his work.

One who plays by the rules and doesn't let his authority put him on a power trip. One who gives women the same credence he gives men. One who can keep his cool in an emergency situation.
