I band my birds at 6 days old.

In my records I have the parents names, hatch date, date I pull for hand feeding and the weaning date. I also keep a record of who purchases my birds along with the result of the DNA test if I do one.

I believe it is around 5 days. I banded my finch chicks at 6 days because the bands slid off the day before. Just don't try to wait too long!

I would keep paper records on each bird with an identification by band number.
