It all depends on how you drive, if you think that driving highway speeds in snow and ice, then you should stay home, but if you drive reasonably even a 2wd truck will do fine in the snow ( I know I drove one in 1-2 feet of snow for over 3 years and never had problems. I just put snow tires on it in the winter, no studded tires just more agressive tread pattern.

Those all wheel drive systems in the fords work better than in years past, my advice would be to wait till the next snow storm and then go test drive an AWD model and find out. It don't cost anything to test drive one.

The Control Trac 4x4 system in the Escape is quite good and reliable if you choose to go with the 4x4 option. It grips quite well, and will direct power to the rear wheels when the front ones loose grip.

And if not, FWD versions seem to handle well overall. The V6 is a definately plus in a field of mostly 4cylinder competitors. There's a new 2008 Escape/Mercury Mariner/Mazda Tribute debuting as well.

Hope that helps...

It is a light car and it does have front wheel drive. I think a lot of it will depend on your driving habits and the quality of your tires.
My daughter has an escape and has never had any problems with the snow.

Yes ! Unlike Hippie Bob I am not sold on Toyota and Honda! The new models of T&H cars are not nearly as relieble as they were years ago! They are very costly to repair and maintain ! Buy the Ford it is a great car and won't kill you if it needs to go to the shop either!

Fords are very expensive to repair as all new cars are. Just to be clear my comment was regarding the above statement that they are cheaper to maintain than others, which is not true. Sorry people don't like that answer, but saying the Toyota or Honda is more expensive to repair or maintain than a Ford is untrue, so don't base your decision on that alone.
