humanity didn't care during all wars until after WW2...has human nature really changed from thousands of years of killing innocent civilians...it seems this thought only hinders victory for any nation at war...

i can see the point of trying to be better of not killing innocent humans...but then where does abortion come in...is it not murder of underdeveloped humans? if its ok to kill underdevleloped humans in a womb...why isn't it ok to kill them outside the womb?...i am by no mean saying we should...i am just posing questions into the logic of decisions...

Those people really do not care.

Listen carefully to what they say - they only condemn killings if they can blame those killings on the US.

Today the enemy send a car-bomb against children on a playground. Notice how the 'anti-war' people never speak to condemn this sort of act?

If they actually cared about those civilians then they would be demanding a plan for how we are going to allow the Iraqis to keep the infant democracy they have voted for themselves.

Humanity cared before WWII, the "Rape of Nanking" and Bombing of Guernica are two examples. The Hague Conventions with respect to the Laws and Customs of War on Land of 1899 and 1907, and the Geneva Convention of 1949, gave express and virtually universal legal sanction to the principle pf avoiding civilian casualties. It's human nature to call some things bad, and yet many people do those things anyway. Rules which are hindering victory will become ignored. Submarines were once supposed to surface and give a warning, but that soon stopped. Killing civilians doesn't give any great advantage, since they are harmless as civilians but killing some will turn the others against you.

because as a world... I think we care more about the value of human life... I mean... are all men equal... are we special... these are ideas that have really come into focus over the past 200 years and more so even over the past 50...

we value human life more... especally innocent human life, as they had no horse in the race... some may call that humanity...

if you turn into a monster to win at all costs... did you really win?

but also, you should consider that war has changed greatly... and wars used to be fought in a certain field at a certian time... with almost zero civilian deaths... because everyone knew not to be there unless you wanted to fight...

in fact, during the civil war, they actually had areas far away from the battle where civilians could gather to watch the war from a safe distance... you couldn't do that with today's wars and technology..

EDIT: I don't think abortion figures in... as most pro-life people also don't like civilian deaths, that I have met...

Well people now want to jump on band wagons, and they never cared to look at history, just the current conflict. SO now they need a reason to oppose conflicts and WOW innocent civilians deaths seems like a great way to influence others to end a conflict. When in reality every war has had this, and it has never been a reason that a conflict ended.

It became real to me when as a 14yr old I remember watching the news reports from Vietnam we had never really had war in our lounge rooms at tea time before and to watch people running down the road on fire after a napalm attack horrified me and made the victims so real and that war has many innocent victims I think they call them collateral damage now.

They are concerned if it benefits them. Do you really think that average Joe Blow with a family here in the states is concerned about death's all over the world when he is busy trying to make a living and rasie that family? Not Even!

Well, thank god / allah /buddah etc that mankind has evolved enought to realize that when it comes to war, it never decides who is right, only who is left.

As an American, I happen to believe that we are above mass carnage and blind destruction. If not, we're just as bad, if not worse, than the evil doers we are at war with.
