would it be legal for professional boxers like pay per view boxers to drink a couple beers before the fight or is that not allowed?

You can, but as people say, wouldn't be really smart. Your question more or less is like asking if they can smoke a cigarette or have caffine before a bout. Nicotine and caffine are drugs, but they are not what is refered to as a "banned substance". Loosly what that means, is nothing that enhances your performance, and/or nothing illegal. Alcohol is neither of those as cigarettes or caffine are not either. Mike Tyson beat Andrew Golota's brains in... they took his win away because Tyson had marijuana in his system. Being high is not performance enhancing, but is illegal. I think that is a garbage decision... but rules are rules plain and simple.

I really don't know why a boxer would have a few drinks before his/her fight. Alcohol is a depressant not a stimulant. Greg Haugen was smoked a joint before one of his fights and was stripped of the title. Nothing foreign can be taken before a professional fighter fights, this includes beer, wine and shots.

All is fair in love and war. Boxing counts as war.

Its not illegal. Its very stupid but not illegal. The trainer would be very angry. He put in all that time getting you ready and you take a substance that impairs your coordination.
