UK Help for re.....?

Hey I from the U.S I have to do a report of the United Kingom. I wanted to know what your holidays are or what you celebrate THAKS.

5th November is Bonfire Night! It marks the anniversary of when Guy Fawkes was going to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London. (You should check the details on this - I may have forgotten the finer details and I certainly can't remember what year!)

We celebrate it by making a guy - it is like a scarecrow, but we call it a guy after Guy Fawkes and then burn the guy on a big bonfire. It is also celebrated with fireworks.

Years ago, we all had bonfires going in our back gardens, but due to the number of accidents every year, we are encouraged to attend public bonfire and firework displays.

Traditional food for this occasion is toffee apples! (I think you call them caramel apples?). Now of course we tend to stuff ourselves with hot dogs, and candy floss (sugar candy to you!)!

holidays- oh thats that small break they give us to do work at home!
yeah, sixish weeks in and around july- august -sept for anyone at school or with kids- or teaching.
About two weeks for easter- in march or april or even early may- easter varies from year to year.
About a week and a half to two at christmas, usually beginning on 23rd december.
We also get several bank holidays when everything remains open -except for the banks, most places still work but kids and bank workers and uni students get these days off- and also there is a "Sunday service" (reduced service) on all public transport and shops. These bank holidays happen about four rimes a year?- or there abouts. There is one in aprl for easter monday, two in may -one the first monday of the mointh and the second the last monday of the month , and another on e I think some time in autumn- cant remember exactly when.

Thats it.
I do have to say, most of us who work over here are given 14 to 20 days holiday a year to take whenever we want but are "advised" by manipulative bosses, to not take it all at the same time. So holidays really do vary alot.

st patricks day - that's celebrated more than st georges day in pubs here.

other than that i think only christmas, easter and new year can really be classed as being celebrated - there are other bank holidays (may day etc) but they aren't really celebrated as such by the country as a whole & most people only celebrate easter by buying easter eggs x

all of the above, I live in Jersey in the Channel Islands (UK) we celebrate and have a holiday on 9th May its our Liberation Day,.(as in being liberated from the Germans in May 45)

well on the 1st of March here in Wales its St Davids day (dewi sant)he is the patron saint of Wales ...
and we celebrate by ...well click on the link it will have more detail....
England have St George
Ireland have St Patrick and Scotland have St Andrew...
we celebrate Easter and Xmas and such like as well

It's Mother's day on the 18th march if that hasn't been said yet. I don't know if americans celebrate mother's day though. I can't remember when father's day is sorry.....And it's practically children's day everyday! Hehe.
