In 1991 a biologist came out with that theory.
In 1999, Ottawa University study, reported by ABC proved it wrong....but 'smart' people find this absurd.

In separated identical twins, the occurance rate of both being gay if one is gay is over 75%.
You must remember that even identical twins can express a given gene in different ways -- identical twins have distinct retinal and fingerprint patterns, for example.
When peopl say 'they are born that way', most are as misinformed as the people who say 'it is a choice'. This is a false dichotomy, it's not entirely nature or is it entirely nurture.
The genetics include an extremely powerful predisposition one way or the other, however, depending on environmental cues, this predisposition may or may not be expressed. In such cases of psychological predisposition, however, the determining factor is not conscious choice, so homosexuality is not a choice at all, however, it's not 100% genetic either, part of it is environmental.
-----------
Forever:
Actually, homosexuality is evolutionarily advantageous in social species. The largest, strongest male typically has the most female partners or exclusive breeding rights. A smaller male may not have the opportunities to breed, and risks injury or death if he tries. By redirecting the breeding urge to other males, the individual is freed from the burden of his own offspring and can contribute to the raising of the other offspring, with whom he is closely related. The offspring, in essence, has more than two primary caregivers when there is a homosexual male around, which increases the child's rate of survival.
Since the offspring are closely related to the homosexual, non-breeding male, they may carry the gene(s) or express the gene(s) involved in homosexuality. Carriers would be heterozygous Het-Hom, and thus able to pass on the homosexual gene-plex. Expressors would exhibit homosexuality.
The prevalence of homosexuality in social mammals follows the expression predicted by evolution.
The existence of homosexuality isn't proof against evolution -- it's support for it.

Who says it's a genetic defect? Is anything but blue eyes and blond hair a genetic defect? You want to be the one to open the nasty vault of social eugenics again?
Be my guest. You'll go down in history right next to Hitler.

Are you writing gay as meaning sex between same sex?
So far I haven't seen any babies even having sex with the oposite sex either.
The only way there could be any hereditary type factor, is in that the iniquities are passed on to the 3rd & 4th generations that hate God (have idols in their life, go to other super powers, love other things more than God, use Gods name in vain, etc...) And that would start at the age of accountability. But the blessing go on to the 1000s generations of those who love God. So, it only becomes a hereditary factor when person actually rebelliously disobey & hate God, same as grandpa did, etc. Then it is worse unto the 4th generation. So I guess they die off.
So, it depends on if the one twin hated God. Iniquities are sinful addictions or generational curses. So it isn't just sexual iniquities (adulteries). It could be the family idol they have worshiped. Alcoholic or drug abusers, etc... Anything that is a sinful addiction.
Schneb has an excellent answer. Totally true.

God does not create a person with homosexual desires. The Bible tells us that a person becomes a homosexual because of sin (Romans 1:24-27), and ultimately because of their own choice. A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as people are born with a tendency to violence and other sins. That does not excuse the person choosing to sin by giving into their sinful desires. If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger / rage, does that make it right for then to give into those desires? Of course not! The same is true for homosexuality.

I'm sure the sceintists here know very well about the four points of natural selectoin by Darwin which in the sceince world is accepted as true.
1. Organisms produce more offspring than can survive.
2. Variations will occur among a species.
3. Helpful variations will allow certain organisms to survive and reproduce.
4. Those with the helpful variations will make up more and more of the population
And also evolution...in which species are born with helpful and more helpful variations over time.
You can't be born homosexual. It's not human nature, and goes against natural selection and evolution: it does not allow you to have offspring and pass on your genes, which is what the human race was designed for. If we were all homosexual, we'd be extinct in a few years.

There is no such thing as a "gay" gene. Sure some studies may think that it has something to do with the size of the hypothalamus, but being that the hypothalamus doesn't secrete sex hormones for men then how could that be? Being gay is a lifestyle choice.

People aren't born gay, although that has become the latest excuse for continued immorality.
"It's not my fault!!! It's my parents, it's genetics, I was raised wrong, I had no father or mother figure"...you name it, they'll claim it, just as long as the fault doesn't rest with them...it's always the fault of someone or something else.
Here's an idea: If you are a practicing homosexual then admit it is your choice to practice such! Stop making excuses and blaming others for the poor choices you make. You alone will have to answer to God for your sin. And just so I don't leave anyone out, we ALL will have to answer to God.

There have been studies that show male homosexuals have a smaller hypothalamus than heterosexual males. Some transgendered brains have shown the same thing. The hypothalamus is very important in regard to controlling sexuality. I believe it is almost always biological, and therefore a person does not choose it. It's in their makeup.

I was born a liar, cheat and thief. It is also very possible I was born a Alcoholic and Drug Addict. It's a fallen world and without Jesus I would be all these things and more. I am not allowed enough space to write all the non Godly things I was. I am a sinner saved by grace and so are you. I just happened to be heterosexual or you bet I would of been a flaming fool too.
Shalom.

Studied of twins where 1 is gay and 1 is not support this idea. They are clearly predisposed from a VERY early age to favor masculine or feminine things. From before the age of 3 they show signs... over and over and over again it has been shown.
People who think otherwise are in denial, or are victims of cult mind control, indoctrination, and brainwashing.
