I was thinking about the Indianapolis coach's son who was a Christian.

Yes, it is possible.

Suicide is usually a product of depression, a mental illness to which even Christians are subject.

Depression is as much an illness as cancer, or influenza, and just as treatable. Christians are subject to depression, and it should be treated for what it is, an illness; just as you would treat any other medical condition.

Coach Dungy gave a testimony at the Athlete's in Action breakfast in 2006, just after his son's suicide. I recomend you look it up on youtube.com, and watch both segments of the video.

Was his son saved? Without knowing him, and without knowing his heart, no one can say for certain whether anyone else is saved with absolute certainty. His father's testimony was that he was a Christian. Suicide does not set aside the work of God's grace or his faith in God.

Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

In the book of Romans, chapter 8, at the end of the chapter, Paul says this:

Romans 8:38-39
38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Depression and suicide are almost always never a conscious problem, but a clinical problem. What I mean to say is the individual suffering from depression regardless of religious or any other affiliation, will find suicide as the only alternative to ending their pain. Due to a chemical imbalance in the brain, depressed people are unable to make rational decisions for their well being and often seclude themselves from any form of help. There is help for depression and it is treatable. People who commit suicide do not want to die, they find it the only way to end their pain even if it is against their religion.

Yes, it could happen. On the other hand, only God and the person know for sure who the real Christians are.
But real Christians can sin, can get depression, can get discouraged, can lose sight of their faith. But God does not lose them!!!! So a person can commit suicide and still go to be with the Lord. They will be cheating themselves out of opportunities to serve the Lord in this world though.

There seems to be a bad misunderstanding about those of us who are saved or born again. We sin and we do it every day just like every one else. The difference is, we can be forgiven of our sins because of Jesus. Christians also get depressed just like everyone else. The only difference in us is we have Jesus in our life. We do make mistakes and the Christian who commits suicide will deal with God and He will judge, not us.

They have.
And, There in Heaven.
Suicide is Not the Unpardonable Sin, where you Lose the Right to Go to Heaven.

I wouldn't do it anyway, Although I Really Do Understand the Pressures Involved.

Jesus can Help Anybody in Any Situation.
As a Child of GOD I would Call out to HIM First.

A "saved" person is still subject to this world's hardships, and is still vulnerable to suffering depression. Being saved doesn't relieve you of your humanity and weaknesses. So I believe, yes, a saved person could choose to commit suicide, as they have a very distorted view of the world around them.

Its possible. If he was mentally insane. Insanity can be a medical problem. If someone has something that medically goes wrong with their mind, it could cause them to snap and maybe kill themsevles. Regardless if they are a saved Christian or not.
Under these circumstances, i dont think it would affect if the person goes to Heaven or Hell.

Sure. Christians are just like anybody else. We face the same troubles as anyone else, and, if we take our eyes off the hope that our savior gives us, and forget the cross, we can be drug down seriously. Had he have had relied on Christ, he would have had the strength to pull through. Trust me. I used to be suicidal, and when I let Jesus Christ be my Lord and savior, He helped me right out of it. I stopped cutting, using drugs, drinking, everything. I give him full credit, because I was never able to help myself.

No . I would consider a very unhappy person to even think suicide, and a very desperate person to commit Suicide.

Salvation is not an event in the past-tense. It is a process ("Work out your salvation with fear and trembling" - St. Paul) - and - in that process, some people give up. They don't like the fear...they don't like the trembling. All we can do now is pray for his soul. May he rest in peace.
