I'm looking all over for it and can't figure out what kind of spice it is...or is it a spice? It's called for in a recipe I have ~ help!

It's a sweetened rice wine. You should be able to find it at the grocer in a small bottle in the international aisle, next to soy sauce and Chinese foods.
It is mostly used for Japanese cooking.

Mirin is used in Japanese cuisine. Mirin has a slightly sweet taste. It is a liquid, It is a kind of rice wine similar to sake, but with a lower alcohol content. If you look in the Asian food isle in your local supermarket you should be able to find a bottle of Mirin there. Good luck in your search :)

It's not a spice. It's rice vinegar.

Look in the vinegar ailse or the Oriental foods aisle.
