Yes and even further where the wife wore the tux and the husband wore the wedding gown. And I've seen this down in all seriousness and I've seen it done in fun. Its a day of love, joy and celebration however a couple does it.

Yeah, it could be real. I've never actually heard of it being done, but anything's possible these days. I actually used to work with a guy who had a hyphenated name. He took on his wife's last name. I personally disagree with the idea of anyone vowing to "obey" their spouse, whether it's the husband or the wife, and I think that any vows that pertain to loving and honoring your partner should be taken by the bride AND the groom, not just the bride....but that's just my 2 cents.

I'm sure it was. Why not? there is no prototype that all marriages must follow. That's progressive. Both people should pledge to love, honor........... and the last name thing isn't important. It's cool that some people are open to that. If I get married I plan to have a more equality based wedding without the sexist entrance for the bride or only my wife changing her name.

It's supposed to be a joint effort anyhow, is "obey" still used in wedding vows?
Yes, the man can take the wife's name, it's not traditional, but sometimes the wife keeps her last name and doesn't take her husbands.
It happens...
Just drop "obey". I thought it was Love Honor and Cherish.
How 1950's of you.

I've heard of cross dressers doing this.
A man taking a woman's last name is VERY difficult, not as easy as the other way around. LOTS of legal stuff.
And there are a few that are fighting this with the 'equal rights' argument.
I'd wager this was 'just a story'.

Not per se. I heard of the groom taking the bride's last name she was the last of her name. Her husband wanted the name to continue.

My husband thought about taking my last name. His last name is always spelled and pronounced wrong. My last name was Brown. But once we figured out his legal name was going to be Charley Brown we decided not to go through with it.
