My cat, Kicha, is 4 years old. Yesterday, I brought home a cat who just got spayed earlier in the day, home from the shelter. The cat I brought home, Patty, is seven months old. She's very sweet and I really like her, but she doesn't get along with Kicha. Patty swipes at Kicha with her paw and she hissed at her twice. Kicha tries to sniff her but Patty meows at her or hisses (she hisses not really loudly or terribly, but she hisses). Whenever I pet Patty, Kicha looks really sad. I feel like Kicha's jealous, but they don't get along! What should I do, besides give one of them away (I won't do that)? Does the fact that Patty has stiches (removeable, not dissalveable) or that she's recently been spayed change anything? Kicha isn't spayed, but she's getting spayed soon. I really want them to get along! Please help!

Animals do this when they are first introduced to each other. Patty is still a kitten and in fear of Kicha, so she is going to feel like she needs to protect herself every time they get near each other. One thing you can do that will help both get along quicker is; Hold Kicha and pet Patty then switch (hold Patty and pet Kicha) If you do this a few times then they will get along and adjust to each other faster.

Your new cat is in a new environment. It's hard for cats to adjust to a new environment especially if they are coming into another cat's domain. Try keeping the two separated for a few days or at least until after they both have been fixed and have healed. Cats get extremely jealous...especially if they think that you like one cat more than the other. They are just like children...they don't want the other to be loved more by you. It will take time for the two of them to get used to each other but in time things should change.

lol. that is perfectly normal trust me. i have five cats. it looks like there getting use to each other, but patty is trying to be dominate of the cats. but it could change, it usually does at the situation and time. its fine, just try not to coon over one or the other. but if it gets to the point were this won't work out u have to remove one or the other. but don't touch them or look at them when there close together, let them deal with it. a few paw swipes or hisses and growls won't do much. let them talk it over

this is a common thing when you bring home another cat! They will fuss at each other for awhile then be fine. As far as your other kitty being jealous pick her up and love on her alot and tell her you still love her. When she gets fixed things will be better.

Give Kicha plenty of attention. Let her know that the new cat is part of your family now. I bet in a few weeks she'll get over it and except the new guy...

Slowly bring them together but do not force them to get along.
