States are not recognizing ULC so people need to stop suggesting them. In fact, there is a Rep (Stan Saylor) in PA that is introducing a Bill for this very thing.

You need to check with your State Secretary to see what they require.
Here in Ohio not only do you have to be ordained, you must be licensed by the State, as well.

are you looking to do it just once or as a full time thing?
Depending on the state/county/city the couple wants their marriage to be registered in you can get a temporary license to do it for a single event.
You may want to check with city hall or whichever body handles marriage licenses for information.

No state licenses anyone to marry couples. They will license to perform marriages.

You have to be a judge (except in SC) or you are ordained by some religious order.

My husband is a minister. When he met the requirements of our denomination (United Methodist) for ordination, they sent his credentials to the state. He has a "license to Preach" framed and hanging on the wall in his office.
