Apparently that old serpent was really up to something whe he said "you don't really die, you'll be as the gods". body+spirit=soul, but the serpent wants us all to confuse the soul with the spirit of life. When we die, what ever spirit we were possesed by leaves (such as a demon), but it's not to be confused with yourself.

my point is that satan's got many deluded by deceitful visions (hallucinations) and interestingly....the catholic church somewhat promotes ancestor worship with worship praying to saints.

The Bible teaches that when we die, we are conscious of nothing.

Ecclesiastes 9:5: "(Ecclesiastes 9:5) 5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten."

Ecclesiastes 3: 19 & 20: "For there is an eventuality as respects the sons of mankind and an eventuality as respects the beast, and they have the same eventuality. As the one dies, so the other dies; and they all have but one spirit, so that there is no superiority of the man over the beast, for everything is vanity. 20 All are going to one place. They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust."

Psalm 146:3 & 4: "3 Do not put YOUR trust in nobles,
Nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs.
4 His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground;
In that day his thoughts do perish."

The spirit we have is just the breath of life, that power that animates us. When we die, it is gone just like when you blow the flame of a candle out. Although we may have holy spirit, that is different and isn't our spirit. Spirit+ breath of life(basically)
Soul+person...we are a living soul.

Genesis 2:7: "And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul."

Genesis 2:19: "Now Jehovah God was forming from the ground every wild beast of the field and every flying creature of the heavens, and he began bringing them to the man to see what he would call each one; and whatever the man would call it, each living soul, that was its name."

The soul does not live on after we die. We do not have an immortal soul that departs from the body and lives on in some spirit realm...

Ezekiel 18:4b: "The soul that is sinning—it itself will die."

Romans 3:23: "(Romans 3:23) 23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,. . ."

Yes, there is more to this, because we have the resurrection to look forward too, but that is the rest of the story!

Acts 24:15: "and I have hope toward God, which hope these [men] themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."
