I'm going to college in august, about a 2.5 hr drive from home, and I haven't gotten my license yet (I live in ohio) and I would like to purchase the smallest car (that's affordable, so no BMW's or high priced cars, preferrably older models).

Basically the question is what is the smallest car out there. I was thinking the Geo Metro LSI, what are some others ?

Crap! Thats a long drive! I'd suggest a jeep, but not comfort for long road trips!

A brand new Corolla, or focus, or accord.

Brand new! Thats what i'm doing with the new vw rabbit, 17,500 but! lower apr financing, lower payments. $330 a month.

Check it out for a little while. But my advice is get something new, and not a truck considering your traveling. If you don't have a good job right now.

Try getting a 96 Honda Civic. or older. Really nice actually.

Clean, VERY quiet.
Somewhat reliable. Good gas miliage.

If you want reliability go with the Toyota Corolla! It's like the old Timex watch commercials, "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking."
I got one for my daughter. It saw all kinds of weather, got 40+ miles to the gallon, and so far with 270,000 miles she finally had to replace the battery! She kept it serviced, and besides tires, it still runs very well.
I switched from US made cars, and have driven Toyota for 20 years now. I really don't like to buy anything outside the US, but the quality on US cars went down, and the prices went up.
True Toyota may cost a little more, but you will appreciate it when you sell it or trade it in.

I can almost assure you that the Geo Metro will not hold up to that much driving. Metro itself sez it's a metro or city car.

Don't get a metro. My g/f is in the same situation and she is looking for a Toyota Echo or a Nissan 200sx. She also wanted a Metro lol. Next year the smart fourtwo is coming out under $15k. Probably the smallest car I can think of. Or get a Honda Civic or something. Euro cars are reliable but expensive to maintian.

Geo Metro has the greatest reliability of any of them. However, you can also find a Ford Fiesta, Honda Civic, Mazda Protege, Toyota Corolla. Stay away from European small cars. Reliability is questionable no matter what you get.

I would strongly suggest looking at a Hyundai elantra or accent. Both get terrific gas mileage and come with a 10yr/100000 mile warranty. The accent brand new starts at about $12000 and it is definately the best bang for the buck. I'm a dealer, so if you have any other questions let me know and I'll check on the details later. Hope this helps.

I have to say with the warranty you get it would have to be a Hyundai elantra , six year warranty is the best you can get for the money .
